Our trip from Accra to Tema last Thursday took us about 20 mins and our first stop was at the German Butcher on Rama Road in Community 11 (Malicat Meat Products and Delicatessen Ltd.)
They have a decent selection of both frozen and fresh meat products. |
Right next to the butcher, there is a fresh produce stall. We were all very happy with her selection of vegetables. |
Our next stop was the Rabboni Oriental Store which sells mainly Korean products. I was able to find some really nice dried shitake mushrooms there (thanks for pointing them out, Jacqueline!). They also have a good selection of frozen dumplings.

This is Eveline's Batik workshop. We got there early and so were not able to see Eveline and her employees work on their batik production.
Very simple but effective setup : ) |
Drums and bath tubs used to dip the fabric in wax, various colors and to boil the wax off. |
Batik stamps are made of foam/sponges here. Very different from the wooden ones I've seen in India and metal ones in Indonesia. |
Fabric that still needs to have the wax removed (final step) |
Posing with Eveline and all her beautiful batiks! |
What better place to have lunch than at the Arirang Korean restaurant. Food was delicious and we were energized to continue exploring Tema.
Arirang restaurant where we had lunch. Thanks Jennifer for ordering all the delicious dishes : ) |
Our final stop for the day was the Tema seafood market. We were swamped by many ladies as soon as we got out of our vehicles. At one stage, I was pulled in 2 different directions by ladies demanding I buy their prawns... boy, are they ever strong!
Looks quiet now but the scene was very different when we first got out of our vehicles. |
Happy with my prawn purchase. |
